Year-End Needs a Fresh Start

It may not feel like it, but the end of the year is fast approaching! Between running reports for shareholders, generating 1099s for every vendor, and figuring out employee bonuses, there can be a lot to deal with and you don’t want to be scrambling to do it all at the last minute.

During an ALA Webcast on November 4th, attendees were shown different ways to prepare their firms for the end of the year, including important actions that extend beyond the usual financial considerations, by Gerri Martin, a partner at Software Analysis Corporation. In this CARET Legal-sponsored webinar, Martin highlighted the things firms should be tackling sooner rather than later to stay ahead of the game and set themselves up for success in 2021.

The discussion included:

  • Closing matters (hint: this isn’t the same as purging them)
  • Document management considerations
    • Retention planning
    • Storage management
    • Document destruction
  • Reviewing your firm’s online presence

With a long list of to-do items, devising a plan with designated responsible parties and corresponding tasks is imperative. During the session, Martin even provided a template that can be used to track the progress of all activities to help firms stay organized and hold all parties accountable.

Watch the webinar and see how your firm can establish a plan of action.
